Dr. Paul Kaschel and his wife
Jackie founded Paraklesis Inc in 1990.
Paul has been the director of Forest Lakes Counseling, a faith based
counseling center since the inception of the organization. Paul and Jackie have worked together for many
years in the community in a variety of capacities including individual and
group therapy, seminars and retreats.
They have also served the Community of Faith in Traverse City by taking
leadership in the local pastor’s association, classes, worship, and serving on
local church boards and staff.
Paul and Jackie have 6
children and have been married 22 years.
They have counseling experience in a broad range of areas including
adoptive children, foster care, reactive attachment disorder, a wide range of
marital issues, substance abuse, sexual abuse and gender specific issues.
Paul received his masters
degree from Western Michigan University in Clinical Psychology in 1986 and his
doctorate from Oxford Graduate School in 1993.
Paul serves the community primarily through Forest Lake Counseling where
he has been both staff psychologist and acting director for 18 years. He is on the referral list for a number of
well know organizations such as Focus on the Family and Exodus International.
Jackie’s experience started
in the school of “hard knocks” where, after a difficult childhood, she became
severely drug addicted which lasted through her adolescence and early adult
hood. After several unsuccessful attempts
to change, she was finally rescued out of her addiction in a powerful spiritual
experience. In 1983, Jackie co-founded,
Contoocook Valley Crisis Pregnancy center.
Jackie later volunteered for Bethany Christian Services on their
national hotline doing crisis pregnancy counseling and a number of addiction
counseling settings. In 1993, Jackie
received her master’s degree from Oxford Graduate School in Religion and
Society with a concentration in counseling.
She co-founded, Paraklesis Inc. with husband Paul where they both worked
full time until 1996 when Jackie “retired” to raise their family of 2 children,
which increased to 5 when they adopted 3 girls in December, 1995.
In 2002, the Kaschels moved
out to Hoosier Valley and Jackie, pursuing a lifetime dream, began Logos
Morgans, originally a small breeding facility of family friendly Morgan
horses. Jackie quickly realized that her
life, long love of horses and her years of training and experience with
relationships had a unique connection.
The breeding facility became a training facility for horses and humans
alike.
In 2007, Jackie was certified at the Partnership level for Natural Horsemanship through the Parelli Natural Horsemanship Program. At the 2006 board meeting of Paraklesis Inc., in a unanimous vote, the board approved Jackie’s proposal for the development of Logos to offer a new dimension of experiential personal development to the community through Equine Assisted Learning. Jackie is uniquely suited to this endeavor with combined unique personal experience, her solid multi-disciplinary experience in counseling and excellent horsemanship skills.
